Here are answers to some general questions.
What does 'surplus' mean? (18127)
The ARP holds assets to pay benefits due now and into the future, which are known as its ‘liabilities’. A surplus arises when the assets are greater than the liabilities, so there is excess money in the ARP. Prior to the merger, each section had either a surplus or a deficit. (A deficit arises when the liabilities are greater than the assets).
We have now merged three sections of the ARP (Alexander & Alexander, Aon Bain Hogg and Aon UK sections) into one new combined section.
The combined section has a surplus.

Why has the Company got access to the surplus to pay DC contributions (17062)
The Trustee has agreed that the Company can use the surplus to pay for Aon OnePlan contributions from 1 January 2025.
The Trustee has agreed protections with the Company which puts a limit on how much of the surplus they can use from this date.

The Trustee has agreed protections with the Company which puts a limit on the amount of surplus that they can use.
Are my benefits safe? (16241)
The ARP is in a healthy financial position largely as a result of Company contributions and strong investment returns.
Whilst the changes include using the surplus to, among other things, fund DC contributions, the Trustee remains committed to its long-term aim of securing all members’ benefits in full.
Did current ARP members have to be consulted with on the Company's use of the surplus? (18128)
No, the current members of the ARP didn’t need to be consulted with or approve the Company’s use of the surplus.

Will any of the surplus from the HPF Section be used to fund Aon's DC contributions into the Aon OnePlan? (18129)
No, any surplus in the HPF Section won’t be used to fund Aon’s employer DC contributions for current UK-based employees.
